Zlatograd (Goldtown)
The town of Zlatograd is situated in the south of the Rhodopes between a lot of beautiful ridges and meadows. It is a small town, but there is an architectural reserve in it, consisting of 108 houses, declared to be architectural monuments. Their appearance is unique, it cannot be seen anywhere else in Bulgaria. Most of these houses are concentrated in Dinko Cholaka District – about 65. They have all been restored and still keep the revival spirit of the Rhodopean people. There are craft workshops in many of the houses, some of them still active – there is a cutler’s shop, a leather-worker’s shop, a goldsmith’s, as well as a few inns and taverns.
