The Vishegrad Medieval Stronghold is among the most famous ones in the Rhodopi Mountains - it was often mentioned in the chronicles of the Byzantine annalists. Situated on a panoramic peak above the Arda River , the stronghold used to control the main road passing through the region. Its walls are still preserved at a height of up to 6 meters. The spot reveals wonderful views of the Cold Well Dam and the town of Kardzali .
