There are two dams situated very close to Koznitsa: Antonivanovtsi and Krichim. They are beautiful manmade lakes, gathering the waters of the Vutcha River between Mihalkovo and Krichim at a distance of over 30 km. After the 150-meters-tall wall of Antonivanovtsi, Vutcha enters a magnificent defile with a length of 17 km and a depth of 1200 m. It is as lovely as inaccessible; its slopes are dotted with huge rock walls and screes, and cut across by deep gullies, with waters that form the most wonderful waterfalls in the Rhodopes. This is paradise for day-time and night-time birds of prey, with representatives of almost all species, characteristic for our mountains. The Izgorialoto Giune Reserve is situated on the impassable slopes; it is the largest juniper-tree deposit in the Rhodopes. Its current condition is excellent – the reserve is spreading, and it has already taken over parts of the opposite slopes. The trees are up to 7 meters tall; they are well-known amongst the local inhabitants for the incredible odour of their wood, smelling for years and years after the tree has been cut down.
