Lakes
The largest coniferous forest in Bulgaria, with an area of over 3000 km, is situated in the central part of the Western Rhodopes. There are several magnificent lakes in it: Beglika, Shiroka Poliana (Wide Meadow), Toshkov Chark, Vasil Kolarov, Dospat. The biggest one is Dospat – more than 20 km long. All these lakes are surrounded by centuries-old forests. Their coastlines form countless bays, which have become favourite camping places for thousands of tourists. The Beglika Lake is near the homonymous reserve, where a lot of wild animals have made a home amongst the virgin nature: red deer, does, bears, wolves, wild boars and wood-grouses.
