Shiroka Laka is a unique architectural reserve and a center of the Rhodopean culture. The village has 75 houses declared to be cultural monuments. The oldest ones were built 200 years ago, and together with the stone-covered streets between them, they keep the spirit of the Bulgarian national revival. The stone bridges connecting the two parts of the village are no less intriguing. The pride of Shiroka Laka is the Musical School, where folklore instruments and folklore singing are studied. Our most famous folk singers, pipers and bagpipers graduated here. Every year at Ilinden, a folklore fair is organized in the area of the village of Gela, and at the same day playing competitions take place in Shiroka Laka.
