The Plakovo Monastery St Prophet Ilia is situated in the forests of the Trevnia part of Stara Planina. It was founded during the Second Bulgarian State, and later it was destroyed by the Turks. It was reconstructed in 1450, and then it was destroyed and restored again many times. The present church was built in 1845, and in 1856 Kolio Ficheto rose the 26-meter-tall bell tower.
