The Petropavlovski Monastery is situated on a peak, rising above the town of Liaskovets. The monastery was founded during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, and repeatedly destroyed after that, the last time during the earthquake in 1913. The monastery was built upon an old fortress, dating back from the dawn of the New Era. The monastery used to be one of the centers of the Bulgarian liberation struggle. In 1874, the first Bulgarian Theological School was opened here, later on turned to a seminary. The most impressive part of the monastery is its 31-meter-tall tower, rising in the middle of the pretty monastery yard, as well as the scenic views of the Yantra River valley.
