Persenk is one of the most beautiful Rhodopean peaks, and it offers an incredible scenic view to most of the mountain. It has centuries-old coniferous forests and large, pretty meadows on its slopes. They are a shelter for an exceptionally rich fauna, most interesting of which is the wood-grouse population, one of the biggest in Bulgaria.
The Persenk region has been populated since ancient times. This is proved by the discovery of Thracian villages, the largest one found in the Pereliitsa area. Nevertheless, an emblem of the region still remains the ancient Thracian road, built in the 1st century B.C. The road passes under the very peak. It is over 4 kilometers long, 1.5 meters wide, very well preserved, and the only way to pass over the divide of this Rhodopean ridge. All along the road you can find beautiful panoramas, reaching the mountains of Pirin and Rila.
