Perelik
This is the highest part of the Rhodopes. It is totally covered with marvelous coniferous forests, dotted with lovely picturesque meadows. The main ridge – Mursalitsa, is one of the panoramic sights, you can see most of the Rhodopi Mountains, Rila and Pirin. The west part of the ridge ends at the fearful abysses of the gorges of Trigrad and Buinovsko, full of caves, like Diavolskoto Garlo (Devil's Throat), Yagodinskata and Haramiiskata caves. The highest peak of the Rhodopes is in Mursalitsa too – Perelik, 2191 m. The peak of Turlata stands in front – it is pyramid-shaped, and there are remains of a medieval fortress on the top. There are numerous centuries-old Christian temples and chapels in the forests around.
The Lednitsata Cave is located at the northern foot of Perelik. It is 1419 meters long, very cold and dotted with ice formations. They do not melt even in the hottest summer days. There are also some quite interesting villages at the foot of Perelik, like Shiroka Lucka, Raikovo and Ustovo. Beside their unique architecture, these villages are everlasting springs of the Rhodopean folklore .
