Kupena - the cave reserve

The biospheric reserve of Kupena is a treasury of flora, majestic caves and inaccessible virgin gullies. This is the richest in tree species Rhodopean reserve. The fauna is also rich – there are representatives of all kinds of animals living in the Bulgarian mountains, but the pride of the reserve is the wild goats, unfortunately decreasing recently. If you climb on top of the Kupena Peak, the whole reserve will be revealed in front of you within gunshot. The fearful vertical slopes of Steneto are to the right. Under these hundreds-of-meters-tall rocks you can see some difficult-to-access cave openings. Kupena and Steneto form a majestic canyon, in the upper side of which is the Water Cave (Vodnata Peshtera), a starting point of a spring. However, the main attraction here, is the Snezanka (Snowwhite) Cave. It is not big, but its beauty is incomparable all over Bulgaria.
Zrebichko is among the forgotten, unknown archaic villages of the Rhodopi Mountains. Most of its houses are centuries-old, and in their architecture you can see the living style of the local building masters. The villages is situated inside a beautiful broad-leaved forest. It is a starting point on the way to the Thracian fortresses Kaleto and Klisurata, as well as the village hill at the foot of the mountain. Its cultural layer is 12 meters thick, the lowest part 9 thousand years old. The hill preserved extraordinary flint tools, incredible glazed ceramic vessels with drawings on them, millstones and statues.
