It is amongst the regions with richest biological variety. The relief is extremely various, it has both plain forests and huge inaccessible slopes and abysses with displacement up to 1200 meters. Here you can see large centuries-old beech forests – the Peshtitsa area, white pine – Ribarka, spruce – Veliko, fir – Karada. Here is also the centuries-old fir-tree with chest-height measurement of 5.80 m. The unreachable areas and the various vegetation are precondition for the big number of hoof game. The most intriguing species is the wild goat, differentiated into several separate herds. The region takes pride in the big number of bears. You can see Koznitsa well from Portitsa, Komarov Kamak (Mosquito's Stone) and Bialata skala (White Rock). They still have traces of ancient fortifications' foundations, and there used to be an ancient Thracian sanctuary on the White Rock, famous for its big sacrifices and rituals with burying of food in ceramic vessels. Many graves, 150 to 200 cm in size, have been found carved into the solid rock in the Pozara (Fire) Area. These graves were made by the ancient Thracians, and they haven't been studied by archaeologists yet. There are two dams situated very close to Koznitsa: Antonivanovtsi and Krichim. They are beautiful manmade lakes, gathering the waters of the Vutcha River between Mihalkovo and Krichim at a distance of over 30 km.
