The architectural reserve, called Kovachevitsa, is the village with the most amazing and beautiful houses in Bulgaria. Every building here is a cultural monument, and an act of the genius thought of the local architects of the period 150-220 years ago. The houses have nothing in common, and they grab your attention with their amazing lack of symmetry in the shapes. When you walk along the narrow stone streets, the upper floors of the houses bend over you like in a tunnel. Time slows down among so many old buildings, and it takes us back centuries ago, when the place was boiling with life. The best Bulgarian builders, famous all over the country, were born in Kovachevitsa. Its inhabitants were intelligent people. They were among the first Bulgarians who founded a school, back in 1820, and a church, whose bell tower is the tallest one in the Rhodopes.
