The Birth of Virgin Mary Monastery of Kalofer is situated at the foot of the fearful Southern Dzendem. Founded in 1640, it was repeatedly destroyed by the Turks. Its latest restoration was made in 1881 by Gencho Kanchev - a graduate of the Trevnia Art School.
