The Glozenski Monastery - keeper of the miraculous icon of St. George

The St Georgi Pobedonosets (St George the Conqueror) Glozenski Monastery.
It is among the most colorful monasteries of Stara Planina. Built upon an unreachable rock, it resembles an ancient fortress wherever you look at it from the outside: it has tall walls made of stone, and its unique archaic architecture is totally different from the other monasteries' style. St George the Conqueror was founded in 1224 by the Russian prince Georgi Gloz, and it was located in the valley. Later it was moved to its present place and became a cultural center of the region; its cloisters in Lovech and Malak Izvor were home of some of the first schools in these lands. The monastery is most proud of its miraculous icon of St George, which has a centuries-long history; many people owe their spiritual enlightenment this icon.
There are several well-furnished rooms in the monastery, where tourists can spend the night, as well as an old-style tavern with traditional food and drinks. It is one of the most preferred tourist places in the Stara Planina Region due to the beautiful broad-leaved forests around, and the incredible views from its windows and the balcony.
