The MONASTERY OF ETROPOLE, called St Trinity, was built in the 12th century, and has been one of the main cultural and religious centers of Bulgaria ever since. It is located in the midst of a beautiful broad-leaved forest, and its architecture is characterized by its unique revival style. There is a lovely meadow in the yard of the monastery, and the exquisite church is in the middle of it. The church is proud of its collection of unique icons and religious books that are available for everyone to see. The monastery has sheltered notorious men of letters and teachers, along with their books, and many of these books have been preserved up to now. One of the first Bulgarian monastery schools was opened here in the 17th century.
