Iujen Djendem Biospheric Reserve has kept alive the most difficult-to-access, the most fearful place in our mountains. The rivers of Biala Reka (White River) and Bazovitsa curve among unreachable canyons, their waters jumping down numerous waterfalls with a height up to 80 meters. There are only few hardly visible paths that lead to the bottom of these canyons, and if you want to pass and explore them from one end to the other, you have to be a seriously trained mountaineer. The best way to see Djendema, is to stand on the ridge that comes down from Haiduta, as sharp as a knife; this ridge takes you to the very center of Djendema, and you find yourself surrounded by endless abysms. You can hear the deafening roar of the White River, and at the highest part of the river you will find the most beautiful waterfall of the area. The biggest Bulgarian waterfall is here too – Raiskoto Praskalo (Heaven's Sprinkle). Unfortunately, it is dry during most of the year. There are mostly beech forests in the region, 100-200 years old, and there are fir and spruce trees in the higher areas. The fauna is presented by bears, wild goats, deer and does, as well as many birds' species, especially birds of prey.
