The Devin River gorge is one of the best-preserved ecological systems in the Bulgarian mountains. Its depth is over 900 m, and it is covered with extremely various flora species. The rough terrain and the presence of numerous rocks and screes determine the variety of the game. The biggest population of wild goat in Bulgaria lives here and in the neighboring reserve – Dupkata (The Hole). The populations of red deer and bear are also excellent.
The remains of the medieval fortress Kaursko Kale are located in the middle of the Devin River, upon a high peak bending over the waters. You can still see the foundations of the wall, soldered with plaster. When you pass along the picturesque canyon, you reach the archaic Kemerov Bridge, supposedly built in the Middle Ages. It is 29 m long, 6.5 m tall and 3.3 m wide. The two main tributaries of the Devin river – Katrandzi Dere and Damla Dere, pour into the main river in this area. They also flow through wonderful, picturesque canyons.
