Cepina is one of the most magnificent legendary strongholds. It is situated on a sharp conical peak, and its area is about 10 decares. This place has been inhabited since the Stone-Copper Age. The fortress wall is up to 210 cm thick, and inside the stronghold there are several perfectly preserved water reservoirs from the 12th – 14th century, the biggest one up to 10 m. deep. The foundations of several churches from the 12th-13th century were also discovered, as well as one early Christian church from the 5th-6th century. The palace and the residential buildings are in the center of the stronghold, built upon the remains of an ancient Thracian village. Despot Slav announced Cepina to be capital of the Ahrida Area. Many epical battles were fought over the stronghold, the last one against the Turks, who took over Cepina after a nine-month siege.
