Arbanasi is one of the loveliest architectural reserves in Bulgaria. Founded by boyars in the 14th century, it reached great economic power during the following centuries. It has unique houses, richly ornamented with woodwork, paintings and decorations, rising behind huge stone fences with majestic gates. The two monasteries and the old churches are other attractions of Arbanasi. It has become a big tourist center due to its proximity to Veliko Tarnovo, and of course, thanks to its perfectly preserved architectural monuments.
