St. Nedelia Arapovo Monastery
The Arapovo Monastery was built in 1858 near the village of Zlatovruh. It has its own distinctive architecture, but most of all it is unique with its tower, placed in the middle of the yard. It was constructed thanks to a donation by the chieftain Angel, a famous fighter against the Turkish oppression. The tower is in excellent condition, with well-preserved frescoes on the outside of the building. The monastery used to be a center for support of the Bulgarian national spirit in the fights against the Greek and the Turkish influences. With Russian help, a school was opened in the monastery in 1869. Every year the monastery is the center of a big Christian council, visited by many people.
