Anevo Kale is one of the most majestic mountain medieval strongholds in Bulgaria. It was built on an inaccessible rocky peak in the northern slopes of Stara Planina. You can reach it through a road carved into the rocks. If you look at it from below, the stronghold is an amazing sight; the two battle towers, with ten-meter walls still preserved, are especially distinctive. The space between the towers is encircles by a thick wall, its foundations stepping on the very edge of the deep abysses around. Some churches and farm buildings have been discovered at the foot of the stronghold.
